Initial information by Azerbaijan Airlines put the Embraer 190 aircraft down to hitting a flock of birds.
Since the plane came down close to Aktau airport on the Caspian Sea, many videos of the accident circulated on social networks. The videos appear to show the plane coming down and striking the ground.
Then part of the plane exploded, flames erupted, and people descended on the crash site. A large black plume of smoke was visible over the crash site.
There were a total of 67 people on board, including 62 passengers and five crew members, local authorities said.
Is the cause of the crash GPS interference?

Data from the flight tracking site FlightRadar24. com showed that the aircraft appeared to make a right turn in the vicinity of the airport near Aktau and that its altitude varied widely in the final moments of the flight before hitting the ground.
The plane experienced “severe GPS interference” that “caused the aircraft to transmit poor ADS-B data,” it explained in a separate posting online, referring to the information that enables flight-tracking websites to follow aircraft in flight.
Russia has also been accused in the past of jamming GPS transmissions in the area.
